With a view to better regulating private healthcare services amid the evolving landscape of healthcare services, the Government is embarking on a root-and-branch review of the regulatory regime for private healthcare facilities (PHFs). A three-month public consultation was launched in December 2014 on the proposal to revamp the existing regulatory regime for PHFs. The community expressed broad support for the regulatory proposals.
Price transparency is one of the key elements in our proposed regulatory regime for PHFs. In October 2016, the Government together with Hong Kong Private Hospitals Association (HKPHA) rolled out a pilot programme for enhancing price transparency for private hospitals. At the present, all private hospitals in Hong Kong have participated voluntarily in the pilot programme in respect of the following three price transparency measures, namely,
budget estimates,
fee schedules and
historical bill sizes statistics.
This website provides a brief overview about the pilot programme for enhancing price transparency for private hospitals, and provides a common electronic platform for all participating private hospitals to release their historical bill sizes statistics so as to facilitate the public to have a convenient access to the historical bill sizes statistics for the past year released by private hospitals on their respective websites.
All data displayed in this common electronic platform is contributed by the private hospitals and is meant for reference only. Participating hospitals are required to capture data from patients accommodating in standard wards and undergoing the single selected procedure. Patients undergoing multiple procedures are to be excluded in the historical bill statistics. Users are advised to inquire directly from private hospitals for details of the items covered by each and every procedure since these are not necessarily identical in individual hospitals.
